Whether you’re taking the day or making it into a mini holiday, Australia has some of the most beautiful destinations in the world. The perfect getaway may be closer and more affordable than you think.

Here are a few places that grabbed our attention for a nice getaway:

  1. The Whitsundays, Queensland

This is the best time of year to visit Queensland and take in the beauty of the Great Barrier Reef. The weather’s perfect for a cruise out to the Reef, snorkel, kayak and see some of the world’s coolest species of fish. If you haven’t been, this is one place you must see. At Whitehaven beach, walk across some of the purest white sand in the world.

  1. The Kimberley, Western Australia

If you like Wilderness escapes, the Kimberley is beautiful all year round, especially in Summer. There are fewer people per square kilometre than almost anywhere else on the planet. The Kimberly boasts breathtaking gorges, awesome waterfalls and amazing wildlife. If you head to the coast, you’ll uncover some of the most picturesque beaches in the world. So, if you’ve ever wondered what Australia looked like thousands of years The Kimberley is the place to see.

  1. Margaret River Region, Western Australia

You don’t need to be a wine connoisseur to enjoy the tranquillity of the Margaret River Region. Try some of the best wines and food Australia has to offer. Take a tour of one of the 120 wineries and meet some of the expert winemakers from the Region. And if wine isn’t your thing and you prefer adventure, Margaret River has plenty of this too. Go off track mountain biking, swim in the Indian Ocean or take a kayak up the Margaret River. There is so much to do if you’re the outdoors type, or stay indoors and go caving at places like Lake Cave.

  1. Great Ocean Road, Victoria

If you’re looking for the ultimate road trip, then the Great Ocean Road is for you! Jump in a car and set off on a trip of scenic bliss. Marvel at the 12 Apostles, wonder around a rainforest and sit on a beach to catch a sunset. Take time out to stretch your legs on the Great Ocean Walk, whilst you take in the stunning views of the coast. You may also see koalas and kangaroos on your journey. Discover restaurants and boutiques along the drive.

  1. Kangaroo Island, South Australia

This is a great place to take the family for a quick break. See some Kangaroos and Australian natives including the echidna, wallaby and bandicoot. Over a third of Kangaroo Island is a national park with gum trees and rocks sculpted by the wind over thousands of years and many caves. Stroll through the Island through one of the great walking trails or take a tour with an Island guide.

  1. Blue Mountains, New South Wales

There’s so much to see in Sydney it’s hard to list everything, from Bondi Beach to Taronga Zoo. If you want a tranquil weekend, then head to the Blue Mountains. Filled with lovely little hotels, pubs and restaurants it’s the perfect place to spend your Australia Day. Take a look around and breathe in the fresh mountain air whilst viewing the Three Sisters. And visit the lookout to see a million hectares of natural Australian forests, sandstone cliffs and waterfalls. Whether you walk on the bush tracks, mountain bike or go to the lookout points – the Blue Mountains is a must see!
