July seems to be a popular month to get fit. Whether it’s training for a fun run or just realising that beach season isn’t too far away, it’s as good a time as any to start being more active. But if you find it hard to get motivated, maybe some new fitness gadgets might make the idea of working up a sweat more appealing.
Wearable fitness tech comes in all shapes and sizes, from wristbands to clip-ons and watches, all with the ability to monitor your movement and keep you focused on your goals. But there are so many on the market now it can be hard to know which one is right for you. So whether you’re an exercise newbie or seasoned runner, we’ve come up with some suggestions for the right fit tech to suit you.
The Newbie: Fitbit Flex
For the exercise newbie, it’s hard to go past the Fitbit Flex. This strap on wristband is easy to use and comes in a range of colours. The Fitbit Flex tracks your daily activity, including your steps taken, calories burned, distance travelled and even hours you’ve slept. You can set a daily fitness goal and monitor your progress by the five lights on the band. The more lights illuminated, the closer you are to your goal. Five lights lit = goal achieved. Easy!
And if you want to take it to the next level, Fitbit also has a smart scale, Aria. As well as measuring your weight, Aria can also asses your body fat percentage and body mass index. These smart scales then wirelessly sync to your data to your computer so you can monitor your progress over time.
The Calorie Counter: Jawbowne Up
The Jawbone Up wristband also tracks daily activities and sleep habits, and is great for keeping an eye on your diet. By syncing it to your phone via the Up app, you can easily keep tabs on your food intake by entering what you eat or even scanning barcodes. And just to make sure all this healthy living is making you feel good, you can also enter your moods to keep track of how you’re feeling.
The Runner: Nike+ FuelBand
Nike and running go hand in hand, and Nike’s own activity tracker, the Nike+ FuelBand, is no exception. With a funky looking LED screen, this stylish wristband also measures daily steps and distances travelled, with one key difference – the Nike+ FuelBand will give you points for your effort. The more activity you do the more points you get, so if you’re motivated by rewards this is the one for you! You can also log in to the Nike+ website to create running routes and share your activity with fellow members.
The Workaholic: Samsung Galaxy Gear
The Samsung Galaxy Gear is a fully functioning watch that in addition to daily activity tracking also has a heart rate sensor. The sensor monitors your output and gives you real time coaching to help you achieve your fitness goals. And just in case you like to keep working while you’re working out, the Samsung Galaxy Gear will keep you on top of emails, texts and incoming calls so you don’t miss a thing while sweating it out.
These are just some of a number of fitness gadgets you can find on Gumtree but there are loads more to choose from. So whether you’re trying to improve your fitness, lose weight, or just wanting to get more active, these smart, wearable gadgets can provide useful insights and make working out a lot more fun!
