Getting Festive with Christmas in July

Caught Up In Christmas

Why do people celebrate Christmas in July? We’re not sure either, but hey – any excuse for a celebration will do! If you’re planning a little soirée of your own, you’ll need the right components to delight guests and show off your Christmas (in July) spirit.

Make planning a little easier with our list of party essentials.

Deck the Halls

Creating the perfect Christmas vibe is easy with a few decorations, but the shops aren’t exactly overflowing with tinsel and baubles this time of year. Luckily, people are selling unwanted, unused and second hand Christmas decorations all year round on Gumtree – and usually at a much lower cost than in store.

TIP: Can’t find the Christmas decorations you’re after? Try using non-seasonal decorations like fairy lights and bunting to bring your theme to life. Add a few red and green props, a little fake snow and no one will no the difference. Plus, you’ll also be able to use these props at other celebrations.

Oh, you shouldn’t have!

What is Christmas without gifts? Setting up Secret Santa will create the anticipation and excitement felt on Christmas morning, while also reducing the collective amount of money spent on gifts (considering it’s not actually Christmas).

TIP: Make sure you put a price limit on Secret Santa gifts. Also, try finding quality second-hand gifts if buying new is out of your price range.

Dance the Night Away

It’s not a real party without the music! Hire a local band or DJ, sit back and let the jingle bells rock. Make sure you let the talent know what kind of music you like and confirm whether or not you’d actually like to hear Christmas carols throughout the night.

TIP: For a cheaper option, hire a jukebox and let your party guests do the DJing for you. If you’re really game and don’t think the neighbours will mind, hire a karaoke system and let the Christmas sing-a-longs begin.

Thinking of Food

Knowing exactly how many people are attending will guide what kind of catering is needed and how much. If working on a budget and expecting a large crowd, party pies, chips and soft drink may be the way to go. If you have the time and effort, try creating a gingerbread house, baking a Christmas pudding or mince pies.

TIP: Take the hassle out of cooking and hire a local catering company to do the hard work for you. They should be able to create a Christmas-themed menu, but be sure to give them plenty of notice so they can source the right ingredients.

Explore the Business Services category on Gumtree for a full range of professionals that can help organise your Christmas in July party. Who knows, you might even find a cleaner to help with the mess!
