Time to catch up on your 2013 resolutions?

Summer is almost here (can you believe it!) which also means there are only a few months left to fulfill your 2013 New Year’s Resolutions. The Gumtree team set some interesting resolutions this year, but the consistent theme across the team seems to have been health and fitness.

Getting fit and losing weight tend to feature as top priorities following the festive season, but they also tend to drop away once to cooler weather kicks in (or is that just us?) So now that swimmer-season is just around the corner it’s time to get back on track.

If you’re looking for some inspiration, here are a few ways to help budge the winter bulge before summer is officially here.

Sign up for a competition or event
There are heaps of organised running, walking, cycling events throughout the year that are open to the public, and the number of them starts to spike as the weather warms up. Here are a few you could consider in the next month:

Gold Coast Trail Running Series, for those who like to run off the beaten track.

The City2Sea Run in Melbourne has both a 5K and 14K race alternative.

Get outside and enjoy the sunshine
We really are ‘the lucky country’ and as the weather gets better it’s a great excuse to get out and enjoy the wonders of Mother Nature. Check out your local council website for recommended local walking trails – some will also have information guides on the local area that you can take along with you. Healthy and educational!

A little help from my friends
Whether it’s a little friendly competition or just a friendly shove out the door, having an exercise buddy can help in the motivation department! They can also help encourage you to push yourself physically and mentally, and provide a fun social atmosphere with your exercise.

Kit yourself out
Sometimes having the right gear can provide the motivation you need to get out and get active! Check out the Gumtree Sport and Fitness category for some great bargains in your local area.
