Muscle cars, oh yeah!

Mustang

There’s so much automotive coolness to be found in modern and retro American and Australian muscle cars for sale today. Muscle cars represent a fine line between pleasure and power.

Muscle cars have long been in our culture through movies like Bullitt with Steve McQueen’s American Mustang GT, Mel’s Ford XB GT in Mad Max and of course ‘Eleanor’ – Nic Cage’s Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500 from Gone in 60 Seconds.

Born in the USA

If you’re looking for a movie star muscle car, look no further than Gumtree – where you will find a selection of both Aussie and US cars. Some cars are in mint condition and you’ll pay a premium price for these. Others could be full-on, ground-up restoration projects.

The Ford Mustang was a huge success back in the day and come to think of it – it still is… but, out of this success came rivalries. General Motors (GM) produced some true muscle car gems – namely Chevrolet, Pontiac (now defunct) and at times Buick and Oldsmobile.

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie…

When it comes to the Aussie culture of muscle cars, motor sport rivalry between Ford and Holden’s muscle cars was at fever pitch in the 1960s to 1970s. The GTS Monaro in HT form was arguably Holden Australia’s greatest champion of the time.

With a classic muscle-car coupe shape, straddled by the original HK and then HG on the production timeline, the 1969 HT GTS Monaro with Chevy V8 power, became a true Aussie motor sport icon.
